Aadhaar Card Update: Free Service Ending on September 14, 2024 – Follow This Step-by-Step Guide

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the free Aadhaar card update service will end on September 14, 2024. After this date, individuals will be charged a fee of Rs 50 for any updates made to their Aadhaar cards.

If your Aadhaar card was issued more than 10 years ago and you have not updated it since, now is the time to make the necessary changes for free. The UIDAI is urging Aadhaar cardholders to submit proof of identity and address documents for revalidation before the deadline.

How to Update Your Aadhaar Card Online for Free

To update your Aadhaar card details online for free, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the myAadhaar portal at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and log in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  2. Review your identity and address details displayed in your profile.
  3. If the details are correct, select “I verify that the above details are correct.”
  4. If the details are incorrect, proceed to the next step.
  5. Choose the identity and address documents you want to submit from the respective drop-down menus.
  6. Upload the selected documents in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format, ensuring each file is less than 2 MB in size.
  7. Review and submit your consent to update your Aadhaar details.

Importance of Keeping Your Aadhaar Card Updated

Having an updated Aadhaar card is crucial as it serves as a primary identification document for most services in India. Whether you’re availing government schemes, enrolling in educational institutions, or completing KYC for bank accounts, a valid and accurate Aadhaar is necessary. If you haven’t updated your Aadhaar for the past decade or have any incorrect information, take advantage of this free update window before September 14 to avoid future hassles and fees.

What If You Miss the Deadline?

After September 14, 2024, individuals will need to pay a fee of Rs 50 to update Aadhaar details. The current window offers the opportunity to make changes free of cost, so it’s advisable to act before the deadline.

Unique IDs for Farmers

In a related development, the government is set to launch a nationwide registration of farmers to issue them unique IDs similar to Aadhaar. Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi announced on Monday that guidelines for the registration process will be released soon, with implementation slated for the first week of October.

Our goal is to register five crore farmers by March next year, Chaturvedi said, adding that the initiative is a key component of the recently approved Rs 2,817-crore Digital Agriculture Mission.
